CBD and Sport – The Perfect Combination

CBD is legal in sport, because in 2018 WADA, the world anti-doping agency, removed CBD from the list of banned substances in sports competitions.

Cannabidiol CBD is not banned, unlike other cannabinoids such as THC, which is a banned substance in anti-doping controls.

Many people and athletes don’t know what effect CBD has. Cannabidiol, better known as CBD, is one of more than 140 different cannabinoids found naturally in the hemp plant, just like THC. All cannabinoids cause reactions in our endo-cannabinoid system (ECS), even animals, everyone without exception has an ECS.

The Endocannabinoid system is in our body and is responsible for a large number of areas in our body. The endo-cannabinoid system has 2 receptors: CB1, which is in the central nervous system, and CB2, which is in our immune system. So it means that if our bodies produce their own cannabinoids and we add CBD, the receptors activate and the effects begin, we are better able to fight pain, anxiety or inflammation.

CBD was removed from the list of substances banned from sport because they recognized the benefits that CBD products can offer in sport. But as with everything, you need to know how to choose CBD oil. For sportspeople, the ideal is broad spectrum oil or CBD oil with CBD isolate, so there’s no risk of THC in the blood. Although full-spectrum oils are less than 0.2% THC, and the value doesn’t produce any kind of effect, it’s better not to risk it in order to avoid problems in the event of an exam.

One of the main benefits of consuming CBD for sportspeople is the fight against inflammation, as sportspeople are very prone to inflammation and often don’t even detect it. In sport, for example, there are many micro-breaks, and when our system is unable to cope on its own, it is at this stage that CBD can be a great support, with its anti-inflammatory properties.

CBD is great for muscle regeneration, because when we exercise a lot, the muscles grow and create micro-tears so they can enlarge, so CBD plays a great role in regeneration here. CBD helps because a strong, healthy body needs rest.

CBD aids recovery by improving sleep and reducing catabolic stress.
